Teachers at the Ejisuman Senior High School in the Ashanti region are denying allegations of sexual exploitation against students in the school
The denial comes after a female final year student of the school disclosed that most of the teachers in the school constantly harass them for sex in exchange for school fees and grades.
According to the student, whose name has been withheld, on many occasions, mobile phones of students were seized by these teachers who compel the students to have sexual encounters with them before the phones are released to them.
But at a press conference on Wednesday, Joy News' Prince Appiah said the teachers have denied all the allegations leveled against them.
The teachers, led by the Board chair of the school, described the allegations as “distressing and disheartening.”
“The Teachers have vehemently denied any allegation of sexual misconduct with a student. Let anyone with evidence come up and give it,” the board chair, Rev Father Dr Paul Atta Nsiah said in a statement. They said in their statement “we are therefore passionately petitioning the National Security and the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection and other human rights groups to come in to make sure that these serious allegations are properly investigated.
The teachers are also accusing the Nkosuohene of the Ejisu traditional area of inciting the students to make the frivolous allegations against them.
According to the teachers, ever since he lost out on the board chairmanship position of the school, the Nkosuohene, Nana Poku has been involved in so many incidents aimed at tarnishing the image of the school.
The “unlawful interference of Nana Poku in the administration of ESEC in terms of student discipline makes his membership detrimental to the school in terms of respect for authority and moral behaviour of the students.”
The teachers said they have reported Mr Poku’s misconduct to the Municipal Education Director, but no action has been taken against him.
An appeal has also been sent to the Municipal Chief Executive Officer of the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality and will be followed with a complaint to the Council of State and Regional Minister if nothing is done about Mr Poku, the teachers have threatened.
“The Board is of the view that the inaction of the authorities is doing a great disservice to the school,” Dr Nsiah said in his statement.

Is GTV Still A Channel? —Afia Schwarzenegger Ask

Following the proposed sale of the Electricity Company of Ghana, the debate on whether the issue of selling government institutions to the private sector will somehow increase efficiency in their services is still ongoing. Some citizens have called for the subsequent sale of other institutions in the hopes that it will probably shift to more adequate working systems. One of such people is TV host and comedian, Afia Schwarzenegger. In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Afia Schwarzenegger called for the sale of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). According to Afia, the corporation’s main television channel, Ghana Television (GTV), cannot be really considered a TV channel, thus it would be more prudent if it is sold. Afia Schwarzenegger has had quite the successful media career, spanning over five years. She has worked with Kasapa FM, Okay FM, and hosted the ‘Kokooko’ program on UTV channel, a subsidiary of the Despite Group of Companies
