Top 10 Secondary Schools in Ghana based on NSMQ

Ghanaians senior high schools are considered among the best in west Africa based on the result of the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE). 

But have you ever wondered which are the leading SHS we have in Ghana among the hundreds available? 

We bring you the top ten based on the results National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), which is the premier quiz competition for senior high schools in Ghana. 




1. Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (Presec Legon) Presec, which is based at Legon in Accra, has won the NSMQ five times. (1995, 2003, 2006, 2008 and 2009) 



2. Prempeh College Prempeh has the NSMQ three times. (1994, 1996 and 2015). Former President JA Kufour attended the school.



 3. Mfantsipim SHS They won the NSMQ in 1999 and 2014. 



4. Achimota School The school won the NSMQ in 1998 and 2004. Famous alumunus from the school includes Kwame Nkrumah, JJ Rawlimgs, Atta Mills and Edward Akufo-Addo.


 5. Opoku Ware SHS The school won the NSMQ in 1997 and 2002. 


6. St. Peters SHS The Nkwatia-based school won the competition in 2000 and 2005.


 7. Pope John Senior School The Koforidua-based school won the competition in 2001. 


8. St. Augustine's College The Cape Coast-based school won the competition in 2007.


 9. Ghana Secondary Technical School The Takoradi-based school won the NSMQ in 2012.

4,000 Graduate To Be Employed Through YEA

Four thousand unemployed graduates who have been sitting at home for the past two years can now heave a sigh of relief following an arrangement to absorb them through the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) for deployment to the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs). Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in Accra yesterday between the YEA and the Local Government Service, the graduates would be employed by the agency for the Local Government Service to deploy them to the MMDAs across the country. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the YEA, Mr Justin Kodua Frimpong, signed on behalf of the YEA while Dr Nana Ato Arthur, the Head of the Local Government Services, initialled on behalf of the organisation. The new arrangement is under the YEA graduate internship module.
