“Tamale Sports Stadium To Be Named After Late Alhaji Aliu Mahama” – President Akufo-Addo OCTOBER 31, 2017 The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has indicated that the Tamale Sports Stadium will be renamed the “Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium”, in honour of the late Vice President of the Republic, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, and in fulfilment of a campaign pledge made in the run up to the December 2016 elections. Private legal practitioner, lawyer Maurice Ampaw, has lambasted the president, his appointees at the Gender Ministry and other state officials for turning a blind eye to the plight of street children. The controversial lawyer believes that the state has failed woefully in the implementation of policies to rid of child beggars from our streets. Tamale Vitting Senior High School in the Northern Region is one of such schools where students are compelled to sleep under trees, on the veranda of the school library and in classrooms. It is one of the most densely populated second cycle institutions in the Tamale Metropolis, located off the Tamale-Yendi Highway. Police have picked up the juvenile who made the news last week for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl at Assin Adadientem in the Central Region. The boy was not arrested early on although he had been charged with defilement because, according to police, the father of the victim, who first reported the matter, did not return to the station to lead them to effect the arrest. More than 800 women in Cape Coast and its environs have benefited from a week-long breast screening exercise. It was organised by Breast Screening Services, an organisation comprising lecturers of the School of Medical Sciences of the University of Cape Coast (SMS-UCC). Additionally, beneficiaries and residents were educated on the need to go for regular screening due to the effect of breast cancer. It was held with support from the University of Cape Coast and Margins Group. Dr. Kwesi Anyanful, senior lecturer at the School of Medical Sciences and a member of the Breast Screening Services disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of a breast cancer awareness walk through the streets of Cape Coast to climax the breast cancer awareness month.
