Hundreds Benefit From Breast Screening Exercise In Cape Coast

More than 800 women in Cape Coast and its environs have benefited from a week-long breast screening exercise.
It was organised by Breast Screening Services, an organisation comprising lecturers of the School of Medical Sciences of the University of Cape Coast (SMS-UCC).
Additionally, beneficiaries and residents were educated on the need to go for regular screening due to the effect of breast cancer.
It was held with support from the University of Cape Coast and Margins Group.
Dr. Kwesi Anyanful, senior lecturer at the School of Medical Sciences and a member of the Breast Screening Services disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of a breast cancer awareness walk through the streets of Cape Coast to climax the breast cancer awareness month.
Out of the number screened, 15 women were found to have lumps in their breast. Dr Anyanful said seven of the cases had reached stage three while the rest were stages one and two.
The youngest he said, was 25 while the oldest was 72 years and indicated that it showed that people with lower ages were now developing lumps in their breast.
Dr Anyanful said those diagnosed were referred to the hospital for effective treatment.
He stated that, stage three of a lump indicated a critical state while stages one and two had higher chances of survival but was quick to add that every stage demands attention.
He admonished men to encourage their wives to go for breast screening since early detection and treatment was essential to the welfare of women and the society in gensociety
Mrs. Thywill Kpe, Regional Directory department of Gender, commended the organisers for holding the event within the Cape Coast metropolis and pledged her outfit’s commitment to educate women in the region to take breast screening serious.


She said that breast cancer was curable with early detection and appealed to ladies to avail themselves for regular breast screening at the appropriate health facilities.

4,000 Graduate To Be Employed Through YEA

Four thousand unemployed graduates who have been sitting at home for the past two years can now heave a sigh of relief following an arrangement to absorb them through the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) for deployment to the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs). Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in Accra yesterday between the YEA and the Local Government Service, the graduates would be employed by the agency for the Local Government Service to deploy them to the MMDAs across the country.
